Yesteryear Thrills

Before the days of the internet and digital camera kids would be thrilled like hell on simple dessert.

The attap chee, palm seed in english, is a favourite found in chendol and ice ball.

The greenish strips in chendol look like something from a runny nose. When it roll out, other kids will shout "chendol, chendol".

Soursop or commonly called angmo durian can be plucked right of the tree, free too as kampongs are full of them. Today medical science has elevate the fruit as a disease fighter including cancer.

There would be the malt candy seller who went around on a bicycle. He scooped up the brown candy with 2 sticks and pull, coil and twist until it became a little white and served on a small stick. For five cents, the 'beh lay ko' was heaven.
